I am David Taylor. Effecting change to create a better world is my highest calling.
I've wanted something more from work than a paycheck since my first part-time job slinging pizzas. I spent years jumping from job to job, never finding satisfaction in work - until I discovered software development.
Combining my creative disposition with my drive for continuous learning, software development provides the tools to make a clear difference in my community and the world at large. With the satisfaction this path brings me, I look forward to a long career of learning through creating and working with others to build a better future.
The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into
it, move with it, and join the dance.
- Alan Watts
Life is often a blur. It’s difficult to assess the struggles and victories of day to day life. When trying to explain your overall wellness to a medical professional, most people can’t truly express how well they’ve truly been, defaulting to “I’m fine.”
Meme-otional is a phone application designed to solve that problem in a fun and engaging way. Utilizing all components of CRUD functionality, Meme-otional tracks the users mood with gifs of memes. Using react chartsjs 2, all the moods you user feels will be added to a chart that totals the different categories.
Americans waste food. Wasted food wreaks havoc on the environment and on people's wallets. You're not just adding more methane to the atmosphere from food going into landfills. You're also losing out on that hiking trip to Iceland you've been planning for years but never quite had enough money for.
Use By is a phone application designed to elimate food waste and save the user money. It was created during the Nash Hack Weekathon held in October 2018.
I worked on the development team and built-out several components, including the navbar, during the 48 hour build-time. I also participated in the early drafting process of the app, attending the consulting sessions during the week leading into the hackathon.
MentalSelf is software as a service, designed to combat the stigma and inaccessability of mental health. It provides tests based on the criteria of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition.
After creating an account, users can take these tests and see their results to better understand themselves. The data from the tests is filtered through two graphs to increase user experience.
The first graph tallies the results from a single test. The second graph averages every test taken of its respective test type and updates every time a test is taken or deleted.
MentalSelf is an MVC web application with CRUD functionality. It was built using both Entity and Identity Framework. The database runs on SSMS, and the graphs are created through CanvasJS.
